Anyone looking for Ikea furniture will be in for a big surprise

Ikea is the furniture favorite of the Germans. At no other furniture store do Germans prefer to shop. Google knows that too, which is why the US company has now built a new function into the search. This makes furnishing with Ikea furniture even easier.

With a turnover of 1.3 billion euros, Ikea is at the top of the furniture stores in Germany. Thanks to a new Google function, Kallax, Billy and Co. could be found in many more households in the future.

Google search shows Ikea furniture as a 3D model

The Search engine now shows all Ikea furniture in a 3D model. A special app is not necessary for this, it is enough to search for the relevant Ikea piece of furniture on a smartphone. More than 10,000 pieces of furniture can be viewed virtually from every side.

Particularly practical: at the push of a button the Ikea furniture can also be placed in your own four walls. Google uses AR technology (Augmented Reality) for this purpose. So if you want to check whether a Kallax shelf or Poäng chair really fits into your own living room, you can do it so easily.

At the moment, Google still seems to be having problems with the different search queries. When we searched for “Kallax”, no 3D model was displayed. Neither did the search query “Kallax Regal.” Only when we searched for “Ikea Kallax” (see image above) did the 3D view option appear. However, it was not at the top, as many would expect, but hid in the middle of the search results.

New installation service via video chat

Ikea has recently shown itself to be extremely willing to experiment. In addition to the 3D models in the Google search, the Swedish furniture giant has also launched a new service. A furnishing expert is available via video chat. Three of these sessions cost 99 US dollars (approx. 91 euros). So far, the new service is only available in the USA.
