Shooter hope makes a brutal crash landing despite many action stars

The new shooter Crime Boss: Rockay City impresses with a cast full of Hollywood stars. But as the first reviews show, even the big names are not enough to save the game from a false start.

Crime Boss: Rockay City really didn’t skimp on its cast — with Danny Trejo, Danny Glover, Chuck Norris, Kim Basinger, Michael Madsen, Michael Rooker and Vanilla Ice the shooter has assembled a spectacular team of stars who lend their voices and looks to characters in the game. Unfortunately, all the big names are useless if the game isn’t convincing and the critics’ ratings for the release speak for themselves.

Crime Boss: Rockay City belly flops

In Crime Boss: Rockay City it’s up to you to become a successful gangster boss, defend your turf, keep other gangs down and carry out successful heists. The shooter offers both a single player campaign as well as a multiplayer mode à la Paydayin which you and up to three friends can pull off raids together.

Shortly after the release on March 28, 2023, Metacritic presented a pretty bad picture for the shooter, despite the star cast. Crime Boss: Rockay City is currently only available once in the PC version on the website to a critic rating of 49 out of 100. For players, the game doesn’t fare much better with a rating of 5.0. Among other things, the unpolished gameplay and the lack of focus between too many different game modes are criticized. (Source: Metacritic)

New shooter has a lot of room for improvement

Although the critics of Crime Boss: Rockay City are rather subdued, the Hollywood legends from the action films of the 80s and 90s are worrying at least for a unique B-movie charm. So if you’re still interested in the shooter, you can get it now in the Epic Games Store for 33.99 euros instead of 39.99 euros. The release offer ends on April 4, 2023. Versions for the PS5 and Xbox consoles are in the works and should appear a little later.

Xbox players still have to wait for Crime Boss: Rockay City, but another shooter is currently heavily discounted in the Microsoft store:
