This way, you can synchronize your apps in the Play Store with different devices

Do you have an Android tablet and an Android smartphone? Then you can now synchronize your apps and games with all these devices via the Google Play Store. That’s how it works.

New features for the Play Store

The Google Play Store is gradually getting many useful functions. For example, you can now install apps that you view in the Play Store on your phone on other Android devices. In addition, a new tab has been available since last year that makes it easier to search for apps that are not made for smartphones. You will find apps for Android TV, Android Auto and Wear OS, and you can install them directly from your phone.

There is now a synchronization option, as shown by the screenshots of Androidworld reader Kees. We see in these screenshots a new option ‘Sync apps with devices’. That option is included Manage apps and device under the profile picture. Tapping it will show you a list of all the Android devices you’re currently signed in to with your Google account and the text: “Apps you install on this device will also be installed on your synced devices.”

Apparently the new sync option is still quite limited. As the description implies, synchronization is only initiated for newly installed apps. So you can’t quickly transfer your list of installed apps to another phone without having to follow Google’s regular steps for this. The synchronization feature also does not apply to app updates. You’ll still need to install updates manually or wait for automatic updates to be applied while your phone is idle or on the charger. Based on the screenshots, it seems that the sync option is automatically enabled for Wear OS wearables. Those devices already automatically install companion apps if they are available.

We hope that the sync option will be more widely available soon. You can quickly install an app from your work phone to your private phone or vice versa. Or simply transfer a fun game on your phone to your tablet. You no longer have to search in the Play Store. The Play Store has also recently put more focus on notifications and offers and it will no longer recommend stuck apps.

Unfortunately, the sync option is not yet available at the editors. Do you see this in the Play Store? Let us know immediately via this e-mail address (please include screenshots).
