Speed ​​test iPhone 14 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung launched a new range of phones this month, including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. This is the direct competitor of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). The prices of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the S23 Ultra do not differ greatly: the Pro is for sale for € 1,298.95, the Ultra for 1,399 euros.

Apple has again opted for its own chip with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the phone has the A16 Bionic chip and has 6GB of RAM. Samsung has just said goodbye to its own chip and went for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Ultra has 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Both phones have a very fast chip on paper, but the most important thing is how the chips perform in practice.

PhoneBuff has therefore placed the two top devices side by side in a speed test. Is the iPhone 14 Pro Max faster according to this speed test, or is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra the faster phone after all?

iPhone 14 Pro Max just a little faster according to the speed test

PhoneBuff’s speed test consists of two rounds every year. In each round, several tasks are performed in succession on the phones, to test which phone performs these tasks faster. The first round of the test had a surprising result: the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra was one second faster than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is unexpected, as it is the first time in 1244 days that a Samsung device has won the first round against an iPhone. The second round was won by the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the device was two seconds faster than the Ultra there.

The end time of the iPhone 14 Pro Max was therefore 02:41.53. The iPhone was therefore slightly faster than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which ended up with a final time of 02:41.78. According to the speed test, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the faster phone, but the difference is almost nothing.
