Nokia shows Xiaomi what the future of smartphones looks like
Nokia wants to make its smartphones more sustainable. It is now possible for users to lend a hand with the new mobile phone. The parent company HMD has now made an important decision for this.
QuickFix repair: Nokia enters into cooperation with iFixit
Nokia has at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, among other things, his new, inexpensive smartphone, the Nokia G22, presented. What is special about it is that you can repair the smartphone yourself in a few minutes.
To make that possible, HMD, Nokia’s parent company, is one Cooperation with the self-repair service iFixit received (source: The Verge). During a press demonstration, the battery of the G22 was exchanged live. Although the process is a bit more difficult than, for example, a Fairphone 4 (for testing), it takes no more than 5 minutes in total. Nokia thus follows the sustainability plans from Google and Samsung. The big Android brands have also been cooperation partners of iFixit for a long time. This is how they offer their customers durable smartphones at. These decisions are not yet at a Fairphone level, but they are taking a good and important direction. Nokia G22: Update supply looks bad
The Nokia G22 is a entry-level phone: The 6.53-inch display has a refresh rate of 90 Hertz and only HD+ resolution. The RAM has a capacity of 4GB and the internal storage is 64GB. If these two brands promise a long-term guarantee of more than 5 years, Nokia keeps up just 2 Android updates and 3 years of security updates strong back. Especially since the smartphone will be launched with Android 12, which will be released in 2021. Adam Ferguson, the product manager at HMD, is aware of the problem. However, he justifies the decision for the new Nokia G22 with the low price: “I know that there are larger numbers flying around in the super-premium class. Yes, it would be absolutely amazing to be able to do that, but all of these things come at a price.”
