‘Apple Pencil will be able to perceive colors and texture in the future’
Apple’s most modest gadget, the Apple Pencil, may become a lot smarter, according to a patent application.
Apple Pencil is dying for an update
The Apple Pencil, the stylus from the electronics brand, has come a long way since the first version and the improved version Apple Pencil 2. But this latest incarnation dates back to 2018, and we are now five years further. Five years is an eternity in the electronics and gadget world.
It is therefore only logical that Apple’s product developers are already busy with a successor. What kind of successor it will be has now become clearer thanks to a patent application.
From ‘dumb’ stylus to smart sensor pen
What it now looks like is that the Apple Pencil will increasingly become not only an input device, but also a sensor. Because the plans, as described in the patent applied for by Apple, go quite far. They make the Apple Pencil an advanced device for observing small details on surfaces and measuring the precise color.
Not very new, but useful
Apple previously filed similar patents for the Apple Pen. For example, Apple patented a texture-detecting pen in 2015 and a color sensor in 2020. These patents are therefore not really new. But clearly Apple is serious about these plans, otherwise they wouldn’t renew these patents.
Meanwhile, many artists and graphic designers are happy with this possible addition to Apple’s technical capabilities. This makes the possibilities much greater and you can also really design art that merges into the environment in terms of color and texture. Also, this gadget can be very useful in technical environments and certain scientific research.
