Amazon Prime Video will add Czech dubbing to its content

Streaming service Amazon Prime Video wants to make a significant impact on the Czech market this year and is preparing Czech dubbing for films and series in its offer. The information was provided by the portal Живе.ск with reference to the Facebook profile BingeWatch, who in the past collaborated with the Netflix CZ / SK fan site.

Amazon Prime Video is starting to take the Czech and Slovak markets seriously

Amazon Prime Video has been on our and the Czech market since 2016. Unlike competing services such as Netflix, however, it offers less content and poor localization. But that should change this year. According to Facebook profile information BingeWatch Amazon wants to bring Czech dubbing in bulk for films and series from its own production. He recently allegedly signed contracts with four local dubbing studios. Of course, dubbing will also be available on the Slovak market. It is possible that we could also expect Slovak soundtracks.

Specific dates or amounts of localized content have not yet been announced, as Amazon Prime Video does not even communicate directly with our journalists in our market. But the dubbing is already according to the portal Живе.ск available in the series Fear the Walking Dead, NOS4A2, Mr. Robot and Spongebob Squarepants. The subtitles have been featuring the series The Terror, The Big Sick, The Looming Tower and Parks And Recreation for some time. Just a few days ago, the Czech subtitles and the popular series Two and a Half Men, Dr. House or The Office.

Amazon Prime Video costs 5.99 euros per month. It has only one tariff, with which videos are available in resolutions up to 4K, HDR and Dolby Atmos. Last year, the service also finally introduced user profiles, so that individual members of the household (maximum 6) can have their own lists and recommendations. With a single subscription, you can watch the same video on two devices at the same time, or three different videos on three devices at the same time.

The competition is still ahead

But the Amazon service is still losing competition in terms of the amount of content. HBO Go, which will be replaced by HBO Max during the year, has twice as many titles and Netlix even up to 6 times more. In addition, it has located more than a third of the titles and several hundred of them are also available with dubbing. This year, their list is to be expanded by dozens of films and series of own production that do not match the quality of Hollywood titles.

In the second half of the year, the Disney + service is also to appear on our market, offering films and series from the world of Marvel, Star Wars or the Pixar studio. We should also not forget the Apple TV + service, whose offer of titles is the weakest so far. However, its prices are low and, over time, interesting series from its own production should also appear in its offer. An example is the adaptation of the sci-fi books of the famous Isaac Asimov Foundation series.
