It is no longer possible to log in to MijnOverheid with a password: this has changed
It is now mandatory to use DigiD or two-step verification for those who want to log in to the MijnOverheid portal. It is therefore no longer possible to simply use a username and password. DigID or two-step verification are more secure alternatives.
Log in to MyGovernment
Those who are used to logging in to MyGovernment only with a password will now have to choose a different method to gain access to the portal. The service announces this on its website. The platform puts forward two-step verification (2FA) as one of the alternatives. In that case you can confirm your identity via a code that you receive in a text message. You can also receive the code via a call on the landline.
According to MijnOverheid, verification via SMS is not an option for those who want to log in to the government service from abroad. In that case, requesting a DigiD is the only solution, as we discover in the information that Mijn Overheid shares. With the DigiD you use an app on your phone as a verification method. You enter your personal pin code in the app to continue.
Security first
The decision of Mijnoverheid to only rely on 2FA or the DigID from now on is very logical from a security point of view. Some online users tend to be careless about passwords and use the same passwords for multiple services at the same time, for example. In this way, they run a security risk on all these accounts if one of those services falls victim to hackers.
