WhatsApp will stop working on dozens of devices from 2023

Every so often, WhatsApp stops working on previously released devices. After all, you cannot maintain a service forever. That is now the case for dozens of different smartphones, both on Android and on iOS.

WhatsApp stops on some devices

From January 1, 2023, WhatsApp will stop working on devices that were released a while ago. These are outdated devices that may have been covered in dust for a while, but it is also possible that you are still perfectly satisfied with the old device. However, it may just be that something is going to change. WhatsApp announces that it will stop supporting a total of 47 models. These are devices that run on both Android and Apple iOS. This is necessary to ensure security and also to offer the latest features.

WhatsApp indicates that the devices and software change regularly. As a result, it is regularly checked which devices and operating systems are still being updated with updates. Previously released devices often do not have the latest security updates or lack functionality that is necessary to keep WhatsApp running.

The messaging service has now looked at which devices are used little and whose software is (very) outdated. In the list of devices that are no longer supported, we see different devices. Including the Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C, the HTC Desire 500, various devices from Huawei and also at LG we come across a number of models, such as the LG Optimus 4X HD and models from the L series. At Samsung, for example, it concerns the Galaxy S2, the S3 Mini and the Ace 2. We have put down the complete overview for you below.
