Oppo unveils a sublime smartphone concept entirely made of glass
If you think smartphones all look the same, Oppo wants to prove you wrong. Its new concept abandons metal for a body entirely made of glass, which gives it a very minimalist appearance.
This week, we were able to attend the Oppo Inno Days, the annual event of the Chinese manufacturer which serves as a real technological showcase. In addition to the official presentation of the Oppo Find N2 Flip as well as the Oppo Find N2, which we were also able to take in hand, Oppo had also lifted the veil on connected glasses and a MariSilicon Y chip capable of improving the smartphone audio.
However, the event was also an opportunity for the Chinese manufacturer to unveil a new smartphone concept. The latter has the particularity of being entirely made of glass, so it doesn’t need a frame to hold the screen and case together. That’s why Oppo calls it “Integrated glass” or “all-glass unibody”.
The smartphones of the future could perhaps do without metal
Despite its rather unique design, the smartphone still has space on the bottom for a USB-C port. We wonder how such a smartphone could be interesting on a daily basis, and especially how Oppo would handle repairs. Since it is obviously a single piece of glass, dismantling it therefore does not seem within everyone’s reach.
The back of the smartphone is probably the most impressive part, since the reflections are very present. With the exception of the circular photo module on the upper part, the back is very shiny, and would almost make us think of a liquid such as mercury. This unusual appearance is therefore much more minimalist than most smartphones currently on the market, but not everyone will like such a design for their devices.
Anyway, this concept gives us an idea of what the smartphones of the future could look like, but nothing says that Oppo will choose this direction for its next devices. Such concepts are often simply there to show what the manufacturer is capable of technologically.
Oppo did not stop at the smartphone, since it also presented a watch as well as headphones which take up the same design entirely in glass. And you, how about an ecosystem made entirely of glass? Do not hesitate to tell us in the comments.
