Philips Hue Festavia: the best Christmas lights ever?
Do the Christmas lights of your Christmas tree really need to be replaced? Then you can of course buy some standard lights at the budget store. But do you really want something special? Then we have a better recommendation for you in this review!
These Philips Hue Festavia Christmas lights (€ 159.99) have something cool. You can adjust the colors to your liking with your iPhone. You can do this with the free Philips Hue app. You are then not stuck with the standard colors of the Christmas lights and it is even possible to change the appearance of your tree match with the lighting in your home.
Can be used with and without Philips Hue Bridge
Setting the lights is very easy. You install the Philips Hue app on your phone and you connect to the Festavia Christmas lights via Bluetooth. The lights are then immediately ready for use.
Do you already have something from Philips Hue at home? Then you probably also have a Philips Bridge (an extra device). You can then also connect the lighting via the bridge and use the lights in the Home app. You don’t get this special Bridge with the Festavia, but it is included in the Philips Hue starter kit, for example. You don’t necessarily need the Philips Bridge, but you do miss a few functions that make the Christmas lights even more fun.
The advantage of the Bridge is that you can switch on the lights remotely and synchronize even more lights with each other. It is also possible to have the Christmas lights color along with the music (with Spotify). In addition, voice control will be possible via the Home app.
Do you want to buy a Philips Bridge? Then it is best to take a starter kit. You will then receive two Philips Hue lamps. These starter kits are often available at a substantial discount.
Nice light effects, with a small drawback
But what can you do with these Festavia Christmas lights (without a Philips Bridge)? Quite a lot, but you have to be nearby to adjust the colors of the Christmas lights (via Bluetooth). You have a lot of options for that and there are plenty of colors to choose from. The app is also very easy to use and of course there are options to create your own combination of colors.
Furthermore, the Festavia has Christmas lights with different effects. For example, the lights can be given a kind of fireplace effect or you can have them flash very subtly with the setting ‘brilliant’. It is a pity that you cannot choose the colors yourself with these effects.
Philips Hue Festavia: conclusion
The Christmas lights from Philips Hue Festavia are pricey, but you get a very cool Christmas lights in return. Unfortunately, with only the Christmas lights without the Philips Bridge you cannot use all options and that is a bit unfortunate. For 159.99 euros you can buy quite a few standard lights.
The lights themselves are small, but give a lot of light at the highest brightness. The cable with the lights is easy to place and move and does not get tangled very quickly. It is a pity that there is a large adapter and a Philips Hue block at the end of the cable.
As a ‘stand-alone’, the Festavia Christmas lights have enough options that you can use. But you actually have to go to the store for a Philips Bridge to make it really cool.
It’s a pity that you actually only use the Christmas lights once a year for a short duration. This is a shame, especially because of the high price tag. But who can stop you from always hanging the lights on your TV cabinet or along the edge of the wall? At least we don’t!
