Twitter Blue makes verification possible for everyone
In early November, Elon Musk made it possible for anyone to get the famous blue check mark for a fee. The Twitter CEO warned when the new Twitter Blue subscription was introduced that fake accounts would be dealt with harshly. With such a Twitter Blue subscription you now get a verification logo behind your name for $ 8 per month.
New checkmarks introduced after verification chaos
As expected, this new subscription led to chaos on Twitter. Fake accounts immediately received verification for a fee, so there were soon fake Apple and Nintendo accounts. Musk was therefore forced to overhaul the new Twitter Blue subscription. The new verification logos are an answer to all the fake accounts with blue check marks.

Check marks in multiple colors: this is what they mean
At the moment you mainly see the blue check mark, but Musk wants to quickly expand this with two more colors. Gray and gold check marks will be added in the future, which should provide more clarity about the person or organization that has been verified. Still, Musk is not quite clear about what will happen to the accounts that still have the very first verification checkmark.
What he does know for sure is this: with the new update, the blue verification logo is only available to individuals, both celebrities and unknown Twitter users. The gold logo is assigned to companies and the gray check mark is available to government organizations. For example, it should become clearer to everyone on Twitter who or what is behind an account.
Verification is now actually verified
Another important change is that accounts that pay for verification are now actually verified. This month, if you bought a Twitter Blue subscription, you immediately got a blue check mark behind your name. Musk has now tweeted that all accounts are checked and only receive a blue verification logo after this check.
It is still unclear how the verification check will be done, at least the tweet states that this will be done manually. Before Musk took over Twitter, users who wanted a blue tick sent a valid ID. Based on this, the account was or was not verified. It is to be expected that Musk will fall back on this system to identify everyone.
More changes to come on Twitter
Introducing new checkmarks seems to be just the beginning of all the changes to come on Twitter. For example, the maximum number of characters in a tweet will be expanded in the future, as will the length of videos on Twitter. Moreover, it is then possible to adjust a tweet if it has already been published, a much-requested function among Twitter users.
