Account sharing will soon become expensive
If you share the Netflix account with friends and family, you have to be prepared for a price increase. It is well known that the streaming service has declared war on account sharing. Meanwhile, there are details of how Netflix takes action against viewers from whom the company earns nothing. Anyone who shares the account will soon have to dig deeper into their pockets.
Netflix is serious: Anyone who shares the account will have to pay extra fees
A Netflix subscription isn’t necessarily a bargain. The streaming service charges up to 17.99 euros per month, depending on which level you choose. But Netflix is doing something to get cheaper. The advertising subscription for 4.99 euros will soon be launched in Germany. But at the same time your subscription could soon cost you a little more than before – at least if you continue to share your access to Netflix content with friends and family.
Officially, Netflix has prohibited the transfer of login data to people who are not part of your household for years anyway. Only the streaming service has hardly ever taken action against it. The number of people who watch Netflix with others without paying for it themselves – or sharing the costs – is likely to be correspondingly large.
The streaming service from the USA will soon put an end to this. In spring 2023, Netflix will introduce extra accounts in a main subscription. Account holders should be able to activate their accounts for other households. According to corresponding tests in South America, a price of 2.99 US dollars per additional household can be expected.
The function is to be “rolled out more widely” in the coming year, according to Netflix Message to shareholders. After the tests, the USA and Canada should be set as the first markets. It is not yet known when account sharing will also be subject to a charge for German customers. According to current prices, the price should also end up at 2.99 euros. How many other households you can integrate will probably vary from one subscription level to another (source: Netflix).

New functions should turn fellow viewers into paying customers
If you don’t want to pay for it, you won’t be able to offer Netflix to others in the future. But the fellow viewers are given a practical function. You can link your guest profile to a new, personal subscription. So should Transfer series and reserved watchlists can become. Netflix makes it as easy as possible to switch to your own account in order to turn fellow viewers into real customers.
