Spotify Platinium: lossless/HiFi music for $19.99/month?
Spotify’s HiFi/lossless subscription seems to be getting closer and would be called Platinium with a price of $19.99/month. That’s according to a poll from the streaming service sent to some users.
An user Explain having canceled his Spotify subscription and having been entitled to a survey, referring to the Platinum subscription, asking him if he was interested in such an offer. This includes the same advantages as the individual offer (€9.99/month), namely no advertising, the possibility of playing any music, of downloading songs for offline listening or even of defining better sound quality.
In the case of Spotify Platinium, we would find support for HiFi, namely lossless (lossless audio). The poll also references a few additional features, including studio sound, headphone/headphone tuner, audio information, pro library, pro playlist, and fewer ads for podcasts only available on Spotify.
As a reminder, Spotify HiFi was originally announced in February 2021, and at the time the company said it would be rolling out late last year. This never happened and Spotify has been radio silent on the best sound quality status ever since and refuses to provide details.
In any case, the monthly fee of $19.99 (probably €19.99 in Europe) is high compared to Apple Music which also offers lossless audio. It is included with the offer at €9.99. Spotify would therefore be twice as expensive. Moreover, some observers believe that adding lossless in Apple Music without a price increase would have disrupted Spotify’s plans, hence the delay.
