With ZDFinfo, the Second German Television offers its own documentary channel, which broadcasts informative content about history, science and culture almost around the clock. As part of the digital broadcasting offer of the public broadcaster, ZDFinfo can of course also be seen in the live stream at any time. “ZDFinfo” started back in 1997 under the somewhat unwieldy name “ZDFinfokanal”. In 2011, the station got its current name with a modernization – but the direction of the station has changed very little. Then as now, ZDFinfo is known as a broadcaster for documentaries and various reportage formats.
For special events and major sports broadcasts, the station is used temporarily as an extended program for the main station. However, the usual program consists of classic historical documentaries and documentary series, knowledge magazines and scientific programs such as “Leschs Kosmos” or “Terra X”, true crime formats, reports and the “heute journal”.
