Google will close Stadia in January 2023
A few years ago, Google launched Stadia as a cloud gaming service that allows you to play on many devices such as TVs, smartphones, tablets and laptops without having to own real gaming hardware. Everything went through the internet and the selection of games was even ok. The service has not really caught on and what was previously suspected is now becoming reality. On January 18, 2023, Stadia will officially be retired (Source: Google).
Until then, Google Stadia will continue to operate normally and you can still play with it on the days off over Christmas and New Year’s Eve without any problems. But on January 18, 2023, it will be over and the plug will be pulled. If you bought Stadia hardware or games, you will get the money back. Google has officially confirmed this. However, Google has not yet revealed exactly how the refund will work. However, the money should be refunded by January 18, 2023. If Google has set a way, then it should be communicated in the official FAQs (View FAQs on Google).
What you need to know about Google Stadia:
Google does not refund subscription fees
While Google will reimburse Stadia hardware and game purchases, you won’t get a Stadia Pro subscription fee back. After all, the subscriptions were executed and you could access all games. However, if you have an active Pro subscription on September 29, 2022, you can continue to use it until January 18, 2023 at no additional cost. So until no longer charged for switching off and you can use the cloud gaming service for free until goodbye.
