Apple updates MagSafe charger firmware
Apple today offers a new firmware for the MagSafe charger, it is numbered 10M1821. In comparison, the previous firmware had the reference 10M229. If you peek from the Settings app, then you’ll see version 255.0.0.0 (up from 247.0.0.0 previously).
As firmware updates are released quietly, Apple does not provide information about the changes. We don’t know what new features or fixes might be included in the new software. But given the recent release of the iPhone 14 and AirPods Pro 2, the firmware might feature optimizations for those devices.
There is no particular method to update the firmware of the MagSafe charger, except that it must be plugged into the mains and an Apple device must be on it. The operation takes place automatically in the background, without the user being warned.
As a reminder, the MagSafe charger costs 49€ (€42.90 at Amazon) and offers wireless charging for iPhones and AirPods. It remains compatible with Qi charging. So you can use it like you would a Qi-certified charger to wirelessly charge your iPhone 8 (or later) and AirPods models with wireless charging case. Only iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro offer this magnetic alignment mechanism.
