These apps are used by the Associate Director of Xandr

In the “Homescreen!” series we present the homescreens of people from the social media, marketing, media and tech industries – including app recommendations and tips for everything from to-do lists to small games in between. Today: Jan-Henrik Scharlach, Account Manager and Associate Director Sales at Xandr.

My home screen keeps changing. New apps are always being added and have to disappear again. What remains constant is the black background. I keep my smartphone screen as “clean” as my computer desktop or desk.

The smartphone as a constant companion

I use my smartphone not only at home, but also in the office. So it must always be within reach. is private Instagram (for Android) a must-have for me. Professionally, I prefer to pick up Slack (for Android) to be able to quickly communicate with my colleagues at Xandr.

I have sorted my apps into folders, I find that clearer and it saves time. I prefer to open one of the folders. I find swiping between pages very annoying.

I hope, of course, that my Covid folder, which is from Corona warning app (for Android) via vaccination certificate up to the Luca app (for Android) contains everything that may soon disappear from my smartphone.

Flexibility no matter where you are

I am fortunate to be able to travel a lot for work. And I also like to travel privately. For example, I just spent my maternity leave in Italy. For such adventures I use some apps like Airbnb (for Android) very gladly. Park4Night (for Android) has already secured one or the other place to sleep for me and showed me great parking spaces for my Bulli.

Entertainment in the smart home

Spotify (for Android) and Netflix (for Android) are of course absolute basics. On business or private trips, I like to pass the time with a podcast or a series on Netflix. For at home, too Sonos app (for Android) not missing.

As a wine lover and semi-expert, is Vivino (for Android) a great app for evaluating and discovering wine. A simple photo of the wine label is enough and you have all the relevant information.

I’ve always been skeptical about image recognition, but this app has proven me wrong and works flawlessly for (almost) every wine from red to white, from cheap to expensive, for every wine region from Italy to the USA.
