Apple Watch Series 8 just came out, but it’s already saving lives

Apple Watch Series 8 saves life
The Apple Watch Series 8 has only been in stores for a few days, but its health features have already proven their worth. Thanks to the watch, a heart condition was discovered that could have been fatal if not detected early.
The story was on 9to5Mac shared by Jason Smith. ‘My parents were on their way to Chester (UK) when I got a call from my father who told me that Mum was not feeling well,’ says Jason. “He said she felt dizzy and her heart was pounding — I told them to stop and I’d be with them as soon as possible.”
When Jason arrived, everything seemed under control. “I checked her blood pressure and general condition on arrival,” he says. His mother reassured Jason that she was feeling much better and that he needn’t have worried.
Heart film ECG
At that point, Jason wisely chose to use his new Apple Watch Series 8. Just like the previous models (except for the SE), it has an electrical heart rate sensor with which you can make an EKG (heart film). The feature can detect irregular heartbeats that can be fatal if left undetected.
“I grabbed my Apple Watch Series 8 and placed it on her wrist to take an EKG,” Jason writes. This is when the Watch warned us to say it had detected atrial fibrillation (afib) and we needed to seek immediate medical attention.” Jason took three more EKGs to rule out false positives, but each time reported afib with a resting heart rate over 160 beats per minute.
Confirmation
Immediately Jason and his parents went to the nearest emergency room, where doctors confirmed atrial fibrillation. The mother was told immediate treatment was necessary.
After a stay in the hospital and several medications that she was prescribed, the mother is well again. “The specialists who looked after her said that if it hadn’t been for the Apple Watch, there’s a good chance she wouldn’t have made it to the end of the day.”
