4,000 euros for switching to e-bikes: EU country wants to convert car lovers

Inexpensive to maintain, good for the environment and healthy on top of that: e-bikes offer many advantages, which is why more and more Germans are switching to pedelecs. So far, however, electric bicycles have not been subsidized in Germany. One of our neighboring countries shows how things can be done differently – and at the same time proves that not every promotion has to be done with a watering can.

E-bikes are not a bargain. Buyers often have to shell out several thousand euros for a current model with high-quality components. When looking at the prices for new cars and their maintenance costs, however, the high purchase price of pedelecs puts it into perspective. Nevertheless, the acquisition costs hurt in the wallet. At least in France, buyers can expect generous relief.

France is promoting switching to e-bikes with up to 4,000 euros

Up to 4,000 euros the French state pays when citizens in our neighboring country say goodbye to their old car and switch to an e-bike (via The Verge). The bonus was introduced last year and has now been increased in order to further increase the willingness to switch. The goal of the government in Paris is that more French people switch to more environmentally friendly transport options.

The special thing about the e-bike bonus: it is not poured out with a watering can. One criterion, for example, is household income. the For example, only the e-bike changer who has a low income gets the full 4,000 euros. This is how you want to promote it.

A helmet should never be missing on a bike, especially for children:

More French people should ride their bikes

By the year 2024, 9 percent of the French are to switch to bicycles, according to the Paris government’s major goal. An ambitious project, because currently only 3 percent cycle. In the bicycle-crazy Netherlands, on the other hand, 27 percent of the population cycle.

The ARD program “Marktcheck” recently took a close look at how climate-friendly e-bikes really are.
