Samsung: Old Galaxy cell phones get an update

In fact, the Galaxy S7 and S8 series have not been officially supported by Samsung for a long time. The smartphones appeared in 2016 and 2017, i.e. six and five years ago respectively. All the more surprising are reports that the group has just launched an update for four cell phones. These will be for that Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus distributed.

However, owners of the smartphones mentioned do not have to reckon with new functions or even an update to Android 13. According to the change notes of the new firmware, Samsung has only the Improved GPS reception stability. Apparently, Samsung found the problem so serious that even six-year-old cell phones received the update.

The new firmware for the Galaxy S7 (Edge) is called G93*FXXU8EVG3 and has 33 MB. The situation is different with the Galaxy S8 (Plus) and the new software version G95*FXXUCDVG4, where the update is a full 420 MP (source: galaxy club). It is important to note that with the update no new security patch from Android is recorded.

Samsung: New update also for Galaxy S6?

Samsung may even be working on one small update for the Galaxy S6, which was released in 2015. At least that’s what the first details on Samsung’s firmware servers indicate. Should the update actually appear, then the GPS reception should also be stabilized.
