Headache or nausea due to OLED
Several people have reported on the internet that they get headaches or nausea when they use their iPhone for a while. Complaints such as fatigue, migraine and eye problems are also common. The problem sometimes lies with the OLED screen of the iPhone.
The OLED screens that you see on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, among others, have a number of cool advantages. For example, the OLED screens are economical, the colors are a lot more lively and black is really black.
However, there is also a problem with these screens. When the image is dimmed (i.e. the brightness is lowered), color deviation may occur. Manufacturers have found something ‘smart’ about it.
OLED screens flash very fast
By turning the screen on and off very quickly, the brightness is adjusted. This does mean that the screen will blink continuously. However, this happens so fast that you don’t see it, but your eyes and your brain are all the time trying to compensate for this. The blinking even gives some people headaches or nausea when looking at an iPhone with an OLED screen.
If you are sensitive to the flickering on an OLED screen, it is better to choose an iPhone with an LCD display. You should not buy the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, because both devices have OLED screens (and therefore cause those annoying headaches).
iPhone without OLED (avoids headaches)
Nowadays it is quite difficult to buy an iPhone without such a new screen. Yet they are still there: the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE 2022 both have an LCD screen. So do you suffer from headaches when you use the iPhone for a long time? Then switch to one of these devices.
iPhone 11
The iPhone 11 appeared in 2019 and has an A13 chip. The iPhone 11 has two 12-megapixel rear cameras: a wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens. It also has a night mode and a portrait mode, but they are less good than the iPhone SE 2022. The iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch LCD screen, with Face ID and a modern design with a notch
The selfie camera is also 12 megapixels. With a battery charge you take quite a long time for an iPhone, you should be able to easily get about a day and a half. The biggest drawback is the lack of 5G and the shorter support for new iOS updates. Due to the older A13 chip, this is probably until 2024.
iPhone SE 2022
The iPhone SE 2022 also does not have an OLED screen and you can also avoid those nasty headaches with this smartphone. This small iPhone has an A15 chip with the old look of the iPhone SE 2020. Furthermore, the smartphone has a home button with Toch ID. You will therefore not find Face ID on this device.
The iPhone SE 3 has a 4.7-inch LCD display and has 5G. There is only one camera on the back of the device. This is a 12 megapixel camera. The selfie camera is a 7 megapixel front camera. The battery of the iPhone SE 2022 lasts about a day.
