1. Quickly set a timer

You know, of course, that you can set a timer in the ‘Clock’ app. It is even possible to set a timer with Siri when you are cooking, for example. There’s another way to quickly turn on a timer without opening the clock app first.

  • Open the control panel by swiping down in the top right corner. On an iPhone with Touch ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center;
  • Tap the icon with the clock and hold your finger for a while;
  • Swipe your finger across the bar to set the timer. You can set a timer from 1 minute to 2 hours;
  • Tap ‘Start’ to start the timer.

2. Using Microphone Recording

Do you ever take a snapshot with your iPhone to, for example, help your parents and explain where a certain function is? Did you know that you can also add a voiceover while taking a snapshot? Handy if you want to quickly give some extra explanation on the iPhone. In these iPhone tips we tell you step-by-step how to make such a video.

  • Open Control Center, on an iPhone with Face ID swipe down in the top right corner. Do you have Touch ID? Then you swipe from bottom to top;
  • Hold down your finger on the snapshot icon (this is the circle with the dot in it);
  • Tap the microphone icon at the bottom to turn the feature on;
  • Then tap ‘Start recording’ and shoot the video.

Extra iPhone tip: everything on the screen is recorded, including the notifications you may receive. That is why it is sometimes useful to (temporarily) put your iPhone in airplane mode beforehand. You do this by tapping the airplane icon in the control panel.

3. Find text in photos

We saved the best tips for last in these iPhone tips, because there is a way to search the text in your photos. This way you can easily find a photo with a tasty recipe or, for example, a specific photo with a map.

The weird thing is, you don’t have an option to search for text in your photos from within the Photos app. You have to do that with the Spotlight feature on your iPhone (or iPad).

Search Text on Photos on iPhone

  1. Swipe down with your finger until a search box appears at the top of the screen;
  2. Type the keyword you want to search for;
  3. Swipe down to “Text Found in Photos”;
  4. Tap the photo you want to open;
  5. Your iPhone opens the photo and immediately shows the word found extra clearly.
