Petrol station association: corporations make friction with tank discounts
Drivers rarely have a reason to be happy when they look at the prices at the pump these days. The tank discount hardly or not at all reaches consumers. Instead, the coffers of the mineral oil companies are full. A premature end for the tax cuts is demanded, Economics Minister Habeck wants to tighten antitrust law.
But that could also hit motorists hard, explains the petrol station interest group (TIV), which has harshly criticized the oil companies. “The Mineral oil companies cash in in view of a climate in the market that allows for relatively high petrol prices,” said a spokesman for the association (source: World). The TIV accuses the corporations of having raised their prices before the start of the tank discount and thus “capitalizing” the discount – the price development of the days and weeks before June 1st supports the assessment.

According to TIV, the cashing in is far from over. The association expects fuel prices to continue to rise over the coming weeks – “In August we will end up at 2.10 or 2.20 euros”, so the fear. Only then do drivers get the real shock.
