9 questions for the founders of HistaFood
In this questionnaire we ask the founders and participants of the Vox show “The Lion’s Den” questions about their products and experiences on the show. This time: Ana Hansel and Melina Neumann, the founders of HistaFood.
HistaFood is an alternative to histamine-rich foods. The product range of the two founders Ana Hansel and Melina Neumann includes muesli, muesli bars and spreads. All products are also vegan, gluten-free and of organic quality.
In the Vox start-up show “Diehöhe der Löwen”, the two founders were able to convince with their low-histamine foods from HistaFood. The lions Nils Glagau and Ralf Dümmel entered into their first joint deal.

HistaFood: Food for a low-histamine diet
BASIC thinking: Hello, you are part of the twelfth season of “Die Höhle der Löwen”. How does that feel?
The feeling of being part of “The Lion’s Den” is indescribable. For years we’ve followed the show and imagined what it would be like to stand in front of the lions. Now the dream has come true for us.
What makes your product so special?
Our HistaFood is suitable for a low-histamine diet and is also vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free. In addition, we only use the most necessary ingredients to create a delicious taste that not only our customers with a histamine intolerance love.
In addition, with HistaNutri we have also developed dietary supplements that are also suitable for a low-histamine diet so that those affected have all-round care.
The idea and concept of HistaFood
How did you come up with the idea and your concept?
Basically, HistaFood arose out of our own need: For personal and health reasons, we had to eat a low-histamine diet for a certain period of time and independently of each other we found that there are almost no proven products on the market for this.
The change in diet was therefore quite exhausting and time-consuming for us. When we got to know each other, it quickly became clear: we have to change that. That’s why we developed our HistaFood.
“The Lion’s Den”
And how did you end up in The Lion’s Den?
We’ve been watching The Lion’s Den for years and we’re big fans. Thus, since the founding of HistaFit, we have toyed with presenting ourselves to the lions with our “HistaFood” products.
Now was the perfect time for us as we have already developed a few mature and marketable products and now need more further support in the area of sales and marketing.
HistaFood: The pitch and the negotiations
What was going through your mind just before your pitch?
We were definitely nervous and hoped the pitch would go the way we had planned. On the other hand, we were keen to finally go out and share our products and vision with the lions and the audience.
And how did the negotiations go?
After we received and accepted the offer from Nils and Ralf, we were able to start planning straight away. We also quickly agreed on how we would like to further develop HistaFood together, so nothing stood in the way of working together. We really enjoy working with the two lions!
What has happened to you and your product since shooting and participating?
In fact, a lot: We have completely restructured our HistaFit brand concept. HistaFit.de is still primarily about education on the subject of histamine intolerance.
On HistaFood.eu we offer our food and on HistaNutri.de our dietary supplements for a low-histamine diet. We received a lot of support from the lions, so we were free to think about other topics and ideas.
HistaFood: This is how it will continue
What’s next? What are the next steps?
Our major goal is to bring HistaFood to supermarket shelves and HistaNutri to pharmacies and make them the new standard alongside gluten-free and lactose-free products. We would also like to expand the market abroad, because there is a need everywhere.
Looking back, how do you rate your experience at The Lion’s Den?
So far, “The Lion’s Den” has been an exciting, exciting and beautiful experience for us. We are very proud to now have two great lions at our side who celebrate our products as much as we do, help us to spread them and make the topic of histamine intolerance better known.
