Exercise more fun with these iPhone fitness games
January is the month of good intentions. With the end of the month approaching, it is now time to decide: will you stick with doing it actively for a month, or will you persevere and make it a habit? In this article, we’ve listed eight iOS apps that will help you with this.
1. Zombies, Run!
Could you use a little extra motivation while running? In Run Zombies Run, a horde of bloodthirsty zombies are chasing you during your jog. The game places you in an alternate reality, where your runs turn into valuable Supply Runs to gather food.
A horde of zombies will regularly come closer, which is the moment for you to take a sprint. Zombies, Run! Is free to download and use. With a Pro membership you unlock all functions.

2. Walkr
Walkr does much the same as Zombies, Run! but with a different theme. In Walkr, your steps are converted into fuel for your spaceship. The further you walk, the more planets you can discover. The app has daily goals and encourages you to keep moving a little more. This way you work towards ten thousand steps per day.
By working with friends, Walkr also has a nice social element. And with its cheerful and accessible design, the app is ideally suited for a somewhat younger audience.

3. Pokémon GO
A few years ago, the whole world spontaneously went out to catch Pokémon, but the game is still very much alive in 2021. Have you ignored Pokémon GO for years? Then the search for new monsters can be a good motivation to go around the block.
Moreover, the app has been regularly updated over the years and supplemented with new functions. That makes it a good way to make a daily walk a little more fun.

4. Strut
Are you looking for an app that encourages you to take a different route every time while running or running? Then you should give Strut a try. This app covers the entire world in gray areas, which you can remove by walking over it. In this way you slowly but surely make your street and eventually your entire city ‘block-free’. You can see all your routes on the map, so you know exactly where you have and have not been.
Strut has a leaderboard central, where you can see who has removed the most gray blocks. That is a good motivator to go that extra mile.
Strut is fun because it doesn’t matter how you move: you can walk, run, cycle, row in a canoe or ride a skateboard through the streets. Of course you can also grab a car, but that would miss the point of this app.
5. Carrot Fit
The App Store is packed with ‘7 minute workout’ apps, but none are as comical as Carrot Fit. This fitness app encourages you to do a short workout every day, while malicious artificial intelligence makes your life difficult. The app is full of jokes, strange names for exercises and stupid words that the AI calls you out.
That makes Carrot Fit far from the most serious fitness app, but one of the best. And that may be just enough to make yourself sweat every day.
6. Standland
Standland is (as the name suggests) about standing sufficiently during the day. The app wants to encourage you by constantly reminding you to stand. You can also use the standing stats of the Apple Watch for this app.
Stand enough and you can unlock a cute virtual creature. Do you want to collect them all together? Then you will have to stretch your legs regularly every day. Standland is also recommended for children due to its cheerful design and equally cheerful animals. With the augmented reality function you can place the digital creatures in your living room.
7. The Walk
From the makers of Zombies, Run! The Walk is a less creepy game. Here your steps are converted into virtual steps that the protagonist of a story must take to get from one clue to another. If you want to know how the story continues, you will have to stretch your legs and take a walk.
With sound clips and a beautiful design, the app comes to life, and the game regularly encourages you to take a detour to unlock extras.

8. Apple’s Activities app
Finally, we should not forget Apple’s own Activity app, of course. If you have an Apple Watch, you will undoubtedly already know the three colored rings. Every day the Watch invites you to achieve your standing goal, movement goal and active movement goal.
You can challenge friends to a movement competition, in which you compare each other’s rings for seven days. There are also monthly medals to be won for specific goals.
