The benefits of an Apple Watch with 4G
Apple sells two versions of the Apple Watch: a ‘regular’ Wi-Fi version, and one with cellular. The former has been available in the Netherlands for many years, but you have to get a cellular Apple Watch (with 4G/5G) from abroad for the time being.
However, this seems to be changing. From excavation of iPhoned appears that Apple is preparing in the background to bring the 4G Apple Watch to the Netherlands.
Whether this will happen with the Apple Watch Series 7, the next model, is unclear, but it is certain that the company is working on it. So it’s time for a taste. What are the benefits of an Apple Watch with 4G?
1. Independence: Apple Watch on its own feet
The biggest advantage of an Apple Watch with 4G is independence. When your smartwatch is connected to the internet, you can increasingly leave your iPhone at home.
If you go for a run in the park, you can be reached ‘normally’ with a cellular Apple Watch, for example. An Apple Watch with 4G has an esim, so you can make calls with it without an iPhone nearby. Now you can of course talk into the microphone of the Apple smartwatch, but it makes much more sense to use your AirPods for this.
This independence also applies to apps such as Spotify and Apple Music. After all, with a 4G Apple Watch you can stream music, just like on your iPhone. That’s handy, because you don’t have to make songs available offline to listen to them while running, for example.
2. Design: The eye wants something too
Real enthusiasts drive to Germany or Belgium to get their Apple Watch. Why? Because the 4G Apple Watch is sold there. Even if the built-in esim functionality is of no use to you for the time being (this must first be supported by providers), there are other advantages to it.
After all, the eye also wants something. The 4G version comes in all kinds of exclusive versions that are not available here, such as stainless steel, ceramic and titanium. You will not come across these luxurious materials in the Dutch Apple webshop, although you can see them at resellers with a good search.

3. Back to basics
The impact of technology on our (mental) health is becoming increasingly clear. Various studies have shown that smartphones are extremely addictive and, for example, have an impact on our sleep. It is for this reason that doctors recommend that you put down all screens before going to sleep.
Obviously, smartphone addiction is one thing. The 4G Apple Watch may play an important role in solving this problem. With its small screen, the watch is a lot less user-friendly than an iPhone. Probably few people are willing to, for example, tap extensive stories on their Watch.
Once the Apple Watch gets 4G, you can leave your iPhone at home much more often and you won’t be tempted to consume addictive games and endless TikTok movies. After all, the screen of the Apple Watch is not suitable for this, it is too small for that.
When will the Apple Watch come with 4G?
After such a summary, there is of course only one question to answer: when can we get started with it? The honest answer is, we don’t know. There are indications that Apple is working on a cellular Apple Watch, but further details are lacking. You can read all about it in the article below.
