15-inch MacBook Air with 256GB has slower SSD than other models
The 15-inch MacBook Air is available in several storage capacities, including 256 GB with the base model. Unfortunately, the 256GB SSD is slower than the 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB as some people have found. This was already the case with the 13-inch model.
A test carried out by the YouTube channel Max Tech confirmed lower read and write speed with the 15-inch MacBook Air. What is the reason ? The same as the 13-inch MacBook Air, as well as the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini.
Apple has chosen to put a single storage module in the 15-inch MacBook Air with 256 GB. For the other models, there are two storage modules. For example, the 512 GB MacBook Air has two 256 GB modules. This choice improves speeds.
In the case of the MacBook Pro and Mac mini M2/M2 Pro/M2 Max, the speeds are respectively around 3,150 Mb/s and 3,000 Mb/s. With the previous generation, the speed is close to 4,000 Mb/s in writing and 4,900 Mb/s in reading.
The 15-inch MacBook Air is available from €1,599 from Apple. It can also be found for purchase from retailers such as Fnac, Darty, Baker And Amazon.
