You should not install this software update

Google is currently rolling out a small software update for its Pixel Buds A. It turns out that owners of the headphones are better off not installing the update. A bug in the update means that the Pixel Buds A can no longer be paired with multiple devices.

Pixel Buds A: Software update is having trouble

Owners of the Google Pixel Buds A headphones should refrain from the update that has just been distributed. In the Firmware with version number 3.519.0 apparently an annoying error crept in that has not yet been fixed by another update (source: Android Police).

Users report that after applying the update, the Pixel Buds A’s pairing function no longer works as usual. The headphones lose the ability to pair with multiple devices at once. Instead, the Pixel Buds A just connect still with the last paired device used. For example, if you switch from a mobile phone to a notebook, you have to pair it again on the notebook.

In addition, the software update causes difficulties. At least some owners complain that they now Press the button on the charging case for 20 seconds to put the Pixel Buds A into pairing mode.

Pairing the Pixel Buds A: Mistake or intentional?

It is currently unclear whether this is an accidental error or perhaps even a deliberate change by Google. What is certain is that a manual Factory reset the headphones does not provide a remedy.

For the time being, owners of the headphones only have the hope that the poorer pairing function is a bug. In this case, Google should soon push another update.
