Xiaomi will now alert you to non-genuine batteries in your phone

Xiaomi follows Apple and warns users of non-genuine batteries. In addition, however, it also limits fast charges. The novelty was discovered by the XDA-Developers website in the latest version of the Mi Security application. If there is a non-genuine battery in the phone, a warning will appear asking Xiaomi to have it replaced by an authorized service center, and using a non-genuine battery may damage the device.

Xiaomi lights up on non-genuine batteries. So far only for models from the Chinese market

XDA-Developers examined the application code, from which they read that currently this notification is only active on phones intended for the Chinese market. Specifically for the Mi 9, Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro models. For the time being, this notice does not apply to European customers, including the Czech Republic, unless they have purchased equipment intended for the Chinese market, which may be found in some Chinese e-shops, which they also import to Europe. Of course, in the future, the warning may be extended to other regions.

You can see what such a warning looks like in the photos above. The information immediately prompted a comparison with Apple, which had previously introduced the feature alerting the user unless the battery has been modified by a certified technician. Cupertine society has been criticized for this move. Many have argued that Apple is just trying to get more money from customers because of more expensive battery replacements at certified services.

In addition to the warnings, Xiaomi also limits the charging speed, but it is not known how limited the charging is. Xiaomi was also asked if he planned to introduce this warning in facilities on the European market. However, at the time of writing, the company has not yet responded.
