Being just too late for the hospital and giving birth in the car: it’s a scenario you might prefer not to think about. It happened to a woman who gave birth to a daughter on the way to the hospital on Sunday evening.

She gave birth on the exit of the A13 near Delft.

Obstetric help

That a child comes when it comes turned out to be on the A13 on Sunday evening. There, in the middle of the exit, a baby was born. The woman was on her way to the hospital with her partner, but soon discovered that she was no longer going to make that trip. As labor was about to begin, the couple parked their car on the side of the road. The two were lucky, because the midwife who drove behind them to accompany them to the hospital immediately came to the rescue. The police and ambulance were also called. The baby was born healthy.

Tears in the eyes

According to a photographer who responded to the ambulance report, everyone was very impressed. “Agents were watching with tears in their eyes. When I saw the child, I also thought: this is very special to experience,” he tells the AD. “The mother received a trauma bear from the police as a present. She was very calm about it. The father’s face spoke volumes. He was very surprised. I could see from him that he thought it was very special.”
