Wish list for the new flagship ApkRig

With the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro, Xiaomi will soon introduce at least two new flagships. There are already a few rumors about this, but we ask ourselves the question: What would we like to see on the flagship? Some things are very likely, others are more utopian.

Xiaomi’s Mi series has become a lot more expensive with the Mi 10 and 10 Pro. Accordingly, expectations of future devices are skyrocketing. If you ask for prices of almost 1000 euros, you also have to deliver flagship hardware without compromise. This has not always been the case with Xiaomi. With the Mi 10 Pro, for example, the company has dispensed with an IP rating (to indicate how well the cell phone is protected from water and dust), which is actually ubiquitous in this device class. We state here what we expect from the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro.

Xiaomi Mi 11 should hold tight

The lack of an IP rating for the Mi 10 has already been mentioned. Xiaomi should add more to the Mi 11 and have the phone certified according to IP 68. Smartphones are often protected against the ingress of water even without official certification, but there is no guarantee without a standardized test. By the way: The IP rating only applies to immersion in pure water. Bringing your phone to the chlorinated swimming pool or the sea is still not a good idea.

Controversial Display

When it comes to size, opinions differ, even in the editorial office. Some want a large display to watch films or multitask, while others want a handy form factor and pocket compatibility. Apple is walking a tightrope here. With the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, the two extremes of the size range are covered with strong products. A Mi 11 mini would therefore be desirable, but unfortunately not too likely.

Discussions also flare up about the display edges. Should these be rounded, like last year, or is a flat display like the iPhone better? The simplest solution: The Mi 11 uses flat glass and the sides of the Mi 11 Pro are rounded. So you can easily decide for yourself which display type suits you better.

So that the screen lasts as long as possible, we would like to have Gorilla Glass Victus as protection on the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro. In the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, this glass has proven to be very shatterproof, even if it cannot quite keep up with Apple’s Ceramic Shield.

A 2021 flagship has to be able to do that

In the Mi 11 we would like an OLED panel with at least 120 Hertz refresh rate. This package has practically been the flagship standard since the Galaxy S20 and should represent the minimum for top-end devices in 2021. Full colors are displayed using OLED technology and pixels that can be switched off individually ensure good black values. With 120 Hertz, all displays on the device appear more fluid, a blessing especially when scrolling and playing.

For the camera of the Mi 11, we hope that Xiaomi will continue to pursue the good approaches of the Mi 10. In the area of ​​telephoto, however, the company still has to make significant gains, a periscope zoom could help. With this technology, the sensor is installed behind a prism and can achieve a higher optical magnification than a conventional lens. Xiaomi, on the other hand, can save itself a macro camera. It feels like this is only built in to showcase more cameras in marketing, but it does not offer any real added value.

Xiaomi is already doing a lot right

When it comes to batteries, Xiaomi leaves nothing to be desired. A battery capacity of 5000 mAh or more would be ideal, plus fast charging with the 120 watts of the Mi 10 Ultra. Wireless charging should of course also be on board.

There will probably be no reason to complain about the performance either. It has already been confirmed that the Chinese are installing the new Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm. This means that there will hardly be any faster Android phones in 2021. At least 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage would be nice. A possibility to expand the memory with a microSD card would also be very popular with us.
