Windows 7 is installed on 100 million PCs, despite end of support

Microsoft has not supported Windows 7 for a year now, but the operating system remains popular with a presence on 100 million PCs. Many people refuse to update to Windows 10.

Cabinets NetMarketShare and StatCounter analyze operating system data every month. The first says that Windows 7 has a 21.7% market share. It is 74% for Windows 10. The second speaks of 17.7% for Windows 7 and 76% for Windows 10. According to ZDNet, these data (and others) establish that there are still 100 million PCs running Windows 7.

Windows 7 end of support took place on January 14, 2020. Individuals are no longer entitled to technical support or updates. However, companies can continue to have them… if they pay. Moreover, the price will increase in January 2021. It will be 50 dollars per computer under Windows 7 Enterprise and 100 dollars for Windows 7 Pro. Prices will double in 2022. Microsoft is hoping businesses will switch to Windows 10, to avoid paying for Windows 7 updates.
