Windows 11 was launched on the OnePlus 6T smartphone
About a week ago, the American Microsoft unveiled a new version of the Windows operating system. This is a fresh Windows 11 OS and should be officially available to the audience by the end of the current year. Recently, this operating system was successfully launched on a OnePlus mobile phone. The information was published on the XDA-developers website.
Windows 11 can run on ARM architecture as well as Windows 10
The first build of the operating system is already available for users included in the Insider program. In addition to the x64-based version, there is the ARM64 edition of Windows 11, which can run on devices with ARM processors.
And what other devices have ARM processors? Well, smartphones! The ARM64 assembly is supported by processors from the American company Qualcomm. However, skilful curious people will try anything and try to modify Windows 11 so that it can be run on a mobile phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under the hood.
OnePlus 6T is not the only ARM device on which Windows 11 has run
A few days ago it was possible to see Windows 11 running on devices like Lumia 950 XL or Raspberry Pi 4. However, it is much more interesting to see Windows 11 on an Android smartphone. The experimental rabbit was therefore the OnePlus 6T.
The Renegade Project team successfully tried this experiment and the result may be far from practical, but it is at least interesting. Video uploaded by edi194 on the mentioned OnePlus 6T model, which previously ran the ARM version of Windows 10.
Even though the installation of the latest edition of Windows took some time, the result is definitely worth it, because after all the phone managed to boot into the operating system itself.
A few things work, others are broken
Interestingly, the basic components of the smartphone also work, such as the touch screen, USB and partly the graphics unit (GPU). Unfortunately, things like WiFi, Bluetooth or audio output don’t work.
On the other hand, it is surprising that OnePlus 6T was able to launch game titles such as GTA IV, CS: GO, Far Cry, Minecraft, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, SimCity 5 and other games.
As you can see, Windows 11, running on a smartphone, is far from perfect. After all, it is an operating system designed primarily for desktops. However, it was definitely worth a try.
