Will there be a pregnant “man” among the emoji? Draft Unicode indicates this

Initiatives advocating gender neutrality and supporters of other liberal currents are likely to receive great attention soon in the upcoming package of new Emoji. The draft of the Unicode consortium includes, among other things, a character who is a pregnant man at first glance. In graphic elements for online communication, they will probably get their place as well pregnant non-binary personsy. A new package of Emoji icons always appears during the summer for comments and is subsequently published in September. Then it is up to each manufacturer or developer when and how to include new elements. It’s due out this year Unicode 14.0.

In addition to this controversial portrait, the new package is intended to include, for example, helping hands with two skin tones, black hands forming a heart, a face with a saluting hand or partially covered eyes. Overall, it intends to give Unicode in the future more room for gender balance and also neutrality individual graphic elements. For example, dancing characters will not be touched in Emoji yet, as their identification is not completely clear.
