Will the Huawei Mate flagship model series end? It looks like it doesn’t

Huawei has been plagued by several problems since it got into a dispute with the US government. According to the Android Authority portal, it is now allegedly considering not to release new models for the Huawei Mate series this year. This time, however, it is not just sanctions from the US government that are to blame, but also the global problem of chip shortages.

If the Huawei Mate series is finally released, it will happen later, due to a lack of chips

If the company really decides not to release new models for the Mate series this year, this will be the first time since the series was introduced in 2013. The Mate 50 series was expected to be unveiled this fall, but now it is questionable whether it will really work out. And if it finally came out, it would probably be later, as Huawei still hasn’t released a P50 series.

It should have been on the market, based on the release date of previous models. Last year’s P40 series was released in April, and so was the P30 series from 2019.

In addition to the problems with the US government, which banned it from using chips in any way related to the US, Huawei has to deal with a global shortage of chips this year. It also affected other smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, which was forced to postpone the introduction of the Galaxy S21 FE.

Statement of the Slovak Huawei

We also asked the Slovak representation of Huawei about this topic, Ela Dekanková, Huawei PR manager, answered:

“We do not plan to sell or suspend our Mate or P flag series.”
