With the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, Google has introduced two smartphones that could hardly be more similar. We have taken a closer look at them over the past few weeks and see how they differ, you can find out in our video.
Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G in comparison: mid-range vs. Middle class
Even if the names of the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G – the latter should not be confused with the Pixel 4a introduced in summer – do not give it away: Both smartphones are pretty similar.
The somewhat aged Snapdragon 765G is installed, a mid-range chip from last year, but which is sufficiently powerful for everyday use.
At the front, both smartphones are equipped with an OLED panel and an 8-megapixel front camera embedded in the punch hole.
On the plastic back, next to the fingerprint sensor, there is a dual camera with 16 MP ultra wide angle and 12.2 MP main camera. You can find test photos of the camera in our test of the Pixel 4a 5G.
Both devices have 128 GB of internal memory, which, as usual with Pixel smartphones, cannot be expanded. And both are equipped with the 5G cellular standard, even if it is currently rarely used. But maybe that doesn’t matter, because Google is known for its excellent software support. The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G both come with the latest Android 11 and by the end of 2023 Both smartphones should be supplied with new Android versions and security updates. By then you will definitely have seen a 5G transmission mast.
