Who would have thought? Best-selling iPhone is a big surprise

As is well known, Apple itself does not say anything about this, but it has now become known which iPhone was bought most by customers in the past year. Apple’s bestseller turns out to be a big surprise.

Since Apple does not officially publish any sales figures, the market research professionals at Omdia judge. They have now Figures on the best-selling smartphones in 2020 released. Apple occupies the first three places in the top 10 and is represented a total of five times. That leaves space for four Samsung models and a Xiaomi mobile phone.

Apple’s bestseller: iPhone 11 instead of iPhone 12

Anyone who thinks that Apple has secured first place with the new iPhone 12 right from the start is mistaken. The best-selling smartphones of the year is namely the predecessor, that iPhone 11 with 64.8 million units. A year earlier it was enough for second place. Speaking of which … it will actually be occupied by the inexpensive iPhone SE in 2020 (24.2 million units). Only then will the new iPhone 12 follow with 23.3 million units. Incidentally, we no longer find the iPhone 11 Pro in the top 10.

This confirms the thesis that Apple customers always lose interest in the expensive Pro models in the second year of production of the new iPhones. The So mass buys cheap and then goes for the “normal” variant. For this and next year there is one more special feature. The “normal” iPhone 12 is currently available in two different versions – with a 6.1-inch and a 5.4-inch display (iPhone 12 mini). The sales figures are divided accordingly. Also clearly visible in the current statistics: The smaller iPhone 12 mini is falling, currently only in 10th place. The majority choose the model with 6.1-inch display or the bestseller iPhone 11.

Is still often bought and used at the moment:

Samsung is slipping

Apple’s toughest competitor Samsung it is not easy on the other hand. Their “bestsellers” (Galaxy A51) only lands in 4th place with a total of 23.2 million pieces. In 2019, the Galaxy A10 was at least 3rd place. The list therefore also reflects the current development, which we already reported on – Samsung is thrown from the smartphone throne and Apple claims 1st place in its entirety.
