Child lock

It may not be educationally sound, but for me it is the solution to make the morning rush hour go smoothly: having Davey watch videos on my phone so that I can take a quick shower. It was always well done – after all, I had a child lock on my smartphone for fear that Davey would accidentally text my entire photo album to my boss. But when in all haste I forgot to activate the lock once, things went wrong.

‘Must be good’

Unsuspectingly, I took a shower after setting up Davey with phone on the couch. After five minutes, the living room became suspiciously quiet. Must be good, I thought. Until Davey walked into the bathroom with my phone.

I looked at my screen and to my great surprise I saw that he had been on the line with 112 for two minutes. He probably found the red “emergency” button so interesting that he swiped it to the right.

Explanation

Frightened, I wanted to hang up, but I also felt I owed the woman on the other end of the line an explanation. And so, blushing, I told them that my five-year-old had run off with my phone and accidentally called 911.

The woman sounded slightly irritated, but then mostly relieved. She had already asked Davey several questions and only received vague answers, so she assumed that something could actually be going on. Which was only very good, of course.

Davey got off with a warning. And I? From now on I will check three times whether the child lock is on on my phone.
