Which models and when will they receive an update?

Android 12 is just around the corner. On February 18, we learned a lot about this new version of our favorite operating system, thanks to the release of Android 12 Developer Preview. Based on these trial versions of Android 12, we can get an idea of what the new mobile operating system will look like. The Android Central web portal has now given us information about which devices will ever receive an update on Android 12.

Our tip

Android 12 contains hidden settings for games

In Android 12 we find a lot of interesting news. Changes will occur mainly in terms of design

We would like to start by mentioning that Android 12 beta also showed us a new design language. This is Material You from Google and will be one of the biggest updates in terms of user interface appearance in recent years. Many elements of the new UI allow one-handed operation of the phone.

Android 12 beta is already available for some devices

Some manufacturers already offer the option of updating their smartphones to the beta version of the fresh Android 12, but we would definitely not recommend this for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro models, for example. In these cases, the test system is so sloppy that after its installation, you will probably not even get into it and you will only see an animation of a switching on mobile phone.

It is not 100 percent confirmed which specific models from different manufacturers will see the stable Android 12, but there are certain assumptions that are likely to be fulfilled. Let’s talk about which smartphones from the manufacturers Google, Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola, Nokia and LG will probably get the latest Android 12 in the end.

Of course, Google Pixel smartphones will have Android 12 first

Of course, Google Pixel smartphone owners don’t have to worry about anything. The American giant Google has also published a timeline of how long the Developer Previews, public beta versions will last, and when we will finally see a stable implementation of the system.

  • Google Pixel 3
  • Google Pixel 3 XL

Samsung models will continue to enjoy regular updates

Who would have thought that the South Korean company Samsung will be better at it in terms of regularity and speed of updates, such as the legendary OnePlus. The company updates both its top models and the cheaper ones.

We will mention that Android 11 was introduced in September 2020. Already during December, many models received updates, especially flagships. So we think and believe that the scenario will be repeated this year as well. • Samsung Galaxy S21
  • Samsung Galaxy S21+
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Xiaomi also boasts great support

When it comes to Xiaomi, or their system with a relatively robust MIUI graphics superstructure, the Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO models tend to have two years of support for major Android updates.

We are therefore counting on updates for smartphones, not older than two years, or those that have received a maximum of only one significant update. The update should arrive in the first quarter of next year. This was also the case with the updates on Android 11, together with the MIUI 12 extension.

  • Xiaomi Mi 11
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite
  • Xiaomi Mi 10
  • Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition

OnePlus no longer updates as regularly as before, but Android 12 does not miss it

OnePlus is without a doubt one of the most popular brands in the world. Until recently, this was due to the high rate of updates and their regularity, but unfortunately OnePlus is slowly but surely losing this feature.

Proof of this can also be the successful OnePlus 7/7 Pro model line (respectively 7T / 7T Pro), which only saw Android 11 after many smartphones from the competition. We hope that similar moments will not be repeated and OnePlus will once again defend the title of one of the fastest smartphone updaters.

Since their excellent OxygenOS superstructure is not at all demanding and graphically significantly different from pure Android, Android 12 could arrive on their phones a little earlier. We would like it to happen by the end of this year. Android 12 with the OxygenOS 12 user interface should therefore receive the following models:

  • OnePlus 9
  • OnePlus 9 Pro
  • OnePlus 9 Lite
  • OnePlus 8 Pro
  • OnePlus 8
  • OnePlus North
  • OnePlus 7T Pro
  • OnePlus 7T
  • OnePlus 7

The future of updates to Android 12 is not yet very well known for Motorola

Let’s face it, the above-mentioned competitors are able to update their devices faster and more often than with Motorola. But that doesn’t mean Motorola forgets about its phones, it certainly doesn’t.

Even though the owners of these models will wait a bit for a big Android update, they will eventually see it sometime. At the moment we only know about two smartphones that Android 12 will almost certainly get. If we find out more information, we will add to the article.

  • Motorola Edge+
  • Motorola RAZR

Will Nokia’s update to Android 12 help their virtually clean operating system?

Finland’s Nokia is currently the only manufacturer actively involved in Android One. However, they still couldn’t keep up with the Google Pixel smartphones.

During the past year, Android 11 was promised sometime until the end of 2020, but in the end, some phones did not see it until a few weeks to months after the start of the current year. It may be different this time, but we can’t know at this point. What we can say, however, are the specific models that can look forward to Android 12 after all:

  • Nokia X20
  • Nokia 8.3 5G
  • Nokia 8V 5G YOUR
  • Nokia 5.4
  • Nokia 5.3
  • Nokia 1.3
  • Nokia 2.4
  • Nokia 3.4

LG has already done that, but it can’t just end with updates

Even though LG has definitely made production of mobile phones, it would be a great disappointment if the current models were omitted from the updates. Therefore, current owners of LG smartphones will be pleased that Android 12 will visit at least some devices:

  • LG Wing
  • LG Velvet
  • LG V50S
  • LG V50
  • LG G8
  • LG Q31
  • LG Q52
  • LG Q92

If we learn more about updates to Android 12, we’ll update this article to a newer version.
