Alternatives to the dualsense of the PS5?

So far there is only one type of controller for the Playstation 5 – the Dualsense, which is manufactured by Sony itself. There is also a simple reason for this: with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Sony has integrated two technologies into the controller that cannot easily be adapted by third-party manufacturers. It can be assumed that the company will share the technology with other manufacturers in the future, so that, as on the PS4, Pro-Controllers and other variants will be released for the PS5. Until then you will still have to make do with the Dualsense, which is for about 70 euros can be bought *. Incidentally, it is now also available in two new colors: Cosmic Red and Midnight Black.

There is a USB port on the front of the PS5. Most of you will certainly use this to charge the controller. But what if there is more than one controller to charge? Or is the front USB port already occupied? Controller charging stations can help by turning one USB port into two charging options.

Sony Dualsense charging station – the original ( 34.99 euros *)

The original from Sony is certainly the first choice for many – but at 35 euros it is also the most expensive product in our selection. You can charge two controllers at the same time with this charging station without any loss of performance. Important: This charging station can only be operated via the mains, not via the USB port on the PS5. As is to be expected from products from the console manufacturers themselves, the Dualsense charging station is of high quality.

Snakebyte PS5 Twin Charge 5 – a good alternative (17.99 euros *)

In contrast to the original, the controllers with the Twin Charge 5 can be charged via the USB port. Two LEDs indicate whether the controller is fully charged. Important: The Twin Charge 5 must be updated prior to commissioning. The product offers an inexpensive alternative to the Sony charging station: You can get it for 18 euros.

Benazcap charging station – the cheapest charging station (5.94 euros *)

With various USB attachments, this charging station can be used on the PS5 as well as on the PC. Here, too, you can charge the controller via USB, not via a socket like the original. Otherwise, this charging station is very restrained: It fulfills its purpose, but has no frills. But it only costs around six euros.

Sony media remote control (28.99 euros *)

So far, there is only one remote control for the Playstation 5: the one from Sony itself, at a price of 29 euros. It is powered by two AA batteries and makes it possible to simplify media playback via the PS5. With dedicated buttons for Disney Plus, Netflix, Spotify and Youtube, you can go directly to your favorite provider at the push of a button. Play, wind, display menus, change channels – all of this is much faster with the remote control. But it is only really recommended for those of you who primarily use the PS5 for films and series.

If you want to stream with your PS5, you can use a camera. The console has many new features that make it much easier to broadcast the game directly on platforms such as Twitch or Youtube. For these streams or Let’s Plays you can use cameras to show your face directly. This is a great advantage to create a bond with the audience.

Sony HD camera (53.99 euros *)

So far only one camera has worked with the PS5: the one from Sony. But unlike many modern webcams, this one does not come in 4K resolution, but only in 1080p. But it has wide-angle lenses and costs only 54 euros. It also offers tools with which you can cut out your background, and a stand to align the camera appropriately. When asked if you need this camera, all you have to ask yourself is: do you stream with your PS5? If you answered yes to the question, then the camera is an option for you. Because it’s a lot easier to stream directly from the console than to loop the signal through a PC. Warning: the HD camera cannot be used with the PS VR. For that you still need them Playstation Camera *.

Controller cases for the Dualsense

Good for sweaty hands: controller covers. (Photo: Yorha)

The Dualsense for the PS5 feels pretty good in the hand. The concave analog sticks are quite non-slip and the grooved back of the controller usually ensures that a firm hold is possible. Nevertheless – if you have very sweaty hands, sleeves can help you to have a better grip. For many of you it certainly depends on the design. You should also pay attention to what material these covers are made of (silicone or rubber are recommended) and whether they are equipped with knobs or grooves so that the hands are better ventilated. Here are a few recommendations.

Benazcap silicone anti-slip controller case (7.99 euros *)

This case is particularly suitable due to the very low price. But the silicone nubs on the handles and analog sticks are also convincing if you want a more secure hold.

Extreme rate Playvital case (12.99 euros *)

The advantage of this case is that it can be bought in many different colors. So you can choose for yourself how your controller should look. The product also comes with three different analog stick attachments so that you can decide which knob arrangement feels best for your thumb.

Yorha silicone case (14.99 euros *)

Just like the case from Extremerate, this variant also comes with various analog stick attachments. But it’s not just different knob arrangements that you can choose between. The Yorha product enables you to change the height of the sticks using attachments. For some of you – with longer thumbs – this can significantly improve the gaming experience. An adapted length of the sticks can also be an advantage in different genres – just think about the precise control in a shooter.
