What’s next for Korra and the Avatar?
“Legend of Korra” was able to pick up Aang’s growing fans again at the start of 2012 with its more adult setting, so that the “Avatar” fan base now consists of all age groups, similar to “Harry Potter” fans.
Similar to Aang’s story, “Legend of Korra” also ended much too early thanks to Nickelodeon – nevertheless, the new avatar was able to gather a strong fan base behind it. Due to the broadcaster’s hesitant broadcasting policy, however, the sequel initially passed many Avatar fans by. For this reason, the series, which is quite equal to its predecessor, is still in its shadow.
Nowadays, Korra and Aang experience more adventures, mainly in the form of comics. Additionally, creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko co-founded Avatar Studios with Nickelodeon in 2021. So the “Avatar” universe could be expanding again very soon.
Netflix has also been working on a live-action remake of the first “Last Airbender” series for a long time. In this initially DiMartino and Konietzko were involved. However, due to creative differences, both parted ways with the project in 2020.
