when will he come to the Netherlands?
Apple has finally unveiled its highly anticipated VR/AR headset, the Apple Vision Pro. But when will this ‘spatial computing system’ (Apple’s words) actually appear? We’re taking a guess for the Apple Vision Pro release date.
Read on after the ad.
This is the Apple Vision Pro
During the WWDC23 keynote, the time had finally come. For the first time in a long time, we got a ‘One More Thing’ at the end of the keynote and Apple then presented the Vision Pro. According to the company, however, it is not simple VR / AR glasses, but a so-called ‘spatial computing system’, including the visionOS operating system. And that is appropriate. Because you can do everything on the Vision Pro that you can do on the iPhone, iPad or Mac. You can think of viewing photos, streaming movies, typing texts or dragging files in the old-fashioned way with windows.
So it seems to be a groundbreaking new device, but we still have to be patient. The Vision Pro is not yet available immediately, but will only appear in a while. But when exactly?
Release date Apple Vision Pro
First the bad news. Apple does talk about a release date for the Vision Pro, but that only applies to the US. In the Netherlands we have to wait even longer for the glasses, more about that later.
During his presentation, Apple talked about a release “at the beginning of 2024”. A fairly flexible concept. But looking at past product launches (the first Apple Watch, for example) we already know very well what that means in Apple’s terms. For example, Apple almost never launches new products in the first two months of the year, and certainly not a completely new product category that deserves all the attention. So remain March and possibly April 2024.
Here too, a look to the past helps. Because Apple may have already launched products in March, but that is the exception rather than the rule. For example, the very first iPad appeared on April 3, 2010, the first Apple Watch on April 24, 2015. These releases are most similar to those of the Apple Vision Pro. So we assume that your appearance is up April 30, 2024 the first reviews of the Apple Vision Pro can be expected. Or that you can get it yourself, provided you have a plane ticket to the US.
And in the Netherlands then?
For the Netherlands it is more difficult to predict when the Vision Pro will appear. The Apple Watch appeared in the US and the Netherlands at the same time, but the first iPhone (June 29, 2007) was one year and an entire product generation in between. We had to wait three months for the iPad in the Netherlands.
At the same time, it will not be, Apple has already confirmed that. Whether we in the Netherlands are in the first group of additional countries (usually shortly after the first release) is doubtful. Usually that is only Canada, France, Germany and the UK. We therefore conclude that the Netherlands will join the second group of countries. And we expect that iPhoned at the earliest in September 2024, and at the latest in April 2025.
And in the worst case scenario, we just skip the first generation and start with the Apple Vision Pro 2. Then we might be in September 2025. Positive note of that story: we wouldn’t get a first-generation Apple product. These are usually plagued by bugs and often only have short software support.
