When can you download macOS 12? These are the expectations
macOS 12 has already been presented, but it will take a while before you can get started with the update. In this article we explain when you can (probably) download macOS 12.

To get straight to the point: no one knows exactly when you can download macOS 12. During the announcement, Apple said the Mac update will be released “this fall,” but we’ll have to make do with that.
We can of course make a weighted guess by looking at when its predecessors appeared:
So it’s safe to say that you can download macOS 12 Monterey in September or October. We probably don’t have to wait until November, because 2020 was also an exceptional year for Apple.
A specific date has not yet been announced. Apple will give this to us this fall, when the iPhone 13 is announced. The company always reveals when the new software versions come out at the last event of the year.

Ready to get started with macOS 12?
That said, you can already get started with the new Mac version. Whether that is very sensible is another matter. The developer beta is already available. This gives app and program makers the opportunity (and time) to update their software in time before the public update rolls out.
The developer beta is emphatically not intended for consumers. The software can be unstable and can be downright unreliable at times. If you are curious about the new Mac version, it is best to install it on a computer that you do not need every day.
The public beta of macOS 12 will be released in July. This one is, as you would expect, available to everyone. Again you have to be careful, because this is still a beta (test version).
