WhatsApp rolls out ‘View Once’ that allows you to view a photo once: this is how it works

WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature. The feature, called ‘View Once’, allows the recipient to view a photo or video you send only once. We explain how the function works.

WhatsApp – View Once

A new feature is rolling out to WhatsApp’s app. Senders gain more control over their sent media with the ‘View Once’ feature. We have known a similar function from Telegram for a long time and now it is also making its debut in WhatsApp. First up are the beta testers, after which the function will be widely available in the final version. By the way, when you receive a message from someone with the function, this already works in your older WhatsApp version; meaning you can only view a message once.

With ‘View Once’, the photo or video disappears from the chat after it has been opened once by the recipient. There is no maximum time to view the photo or video. It is good to know that it is still possible for the recipient to take a screenshot of the screen.

If you have the function available, you can send an image in the normal way you are used to. Before you tap send, you will see a ‘1’ next to the send button. This activates the ‘View once’ function. At the location of the photo, which you cannot open yourself, you can see whether the message has been opened by the other person. By holding down the text box and tapping the ‘i’ you will also see when it is open.

If you don’t want to wait any longer for the final update with ‘View One’, you can download the APK here. Please note that the version of the installation file may differ per device.
