WhatsApp no ​​longer works on old smartphones

WhatsApp ceased to work on older smartphones on January 1, 2021. Application requirements change each year, which means that support for multiple phones has been dropped.

There is the case of iOS and the case of Android. In the case of Apple’s operating system, WhatsApp need iOS 9 at least. This means that you must have at least an iPhone 4s. Those with an iPhone 4 or older can no longer use WhatsApp as of January 1, 2021.

WhatsApp takes this opportunity to remind you that it does not support iPhone which is jailbroken. Messaging works on it, but WhatsApp does not provide support for users. “We cannot provide support to users with modified versions of the iPhone operating system”, indicates WhatsApp.

As for the operating system of Google, it is necessary to have a smartphone under Android 4.0.3 at least. It is difficult to say which are the compatible and incompatible models given the quantity of smartphones from different manufacturers. But WhatsApp provides at least a few examples:

  • LG Lucid
  • Motorola DROID 4
  • Sony Xperia Pro
  • HTC Sensation, HTC Thunderbolt (4G)
  • Samsung galaxy note
  • Samsung galaxy s3

In addition to iOS and Android, WhatsApp no ​​longer works since January 1, 2021 on some smartphones running KaiOS. It is necessary to have a model under KaiOS 2.5.1 at least to continue to benefit from the messaging.
