WhatsApp will help you switch when you switch operating systems or get a new phone number. Read here how and what.

Many people switch quite a lot from smartphone and therefore also phone number. The problem with WhatsApp is that you cannot take your chats with you. In fact, you just have to reinstall the app on your phone and do everything again. You have lost chats, and phone numbers have to be synchronized again.

What may happen more often is that you switch operating systems. So you bring your phone number, but go from a Samsung S21 (Android) to an iPhone 12 (iOS), for example. Then you also run into limitations! The company is now coming up with a new useful feature that will be released soon.

Now your phone number is important at WhatsApp. For example, you can save your chats in the cloud, but if you want to retrieve them again, it is linked to your phone number. Or the operating system. If you would like to switch from Android to iOS, then you will also run into problems. The messaging service will make this easy and will soon offer users migration solutions that will make our lives a lot easier.

WhatsApp solution when switching

WABetaInfo discovered the new functionality. On a screenshot they show that it will be possible to choose a different phone number during the migration process. You can only do that if you are actually busy transferring things, so you cannot transfer chats at any other time. And it’s not just your chats, your media files also come along. That is very handy, so you do not lose your favorite images within the app.

The function is still under development, it is unknown when we will be able to use these new migration tools.
