WhatsApp alert: this message breaks the application! Here is the solution

At the end of May, WhatsApp started crashing on many smartphones. In question, a redirect link to the application settings, ‘wa.me/settings’. Problem, once the link is clicked, the messaging system starts to crash. Once the app is closed and then reopened, it works perfectly again, until the relevant chat is reopened. A behavior that therefore makes the conversation inaccessible once the link is clicked.

According to information from Twitter user @pandyaMayur11, confirmed by Android Authority, this bug is specific to Android and version 2.23.10.77 of the messaging app. Other versions may have been affected by this bug.

How to debug WhatsApp?

If you encounter this problem, the correction is quite simple. Go to your Android’s Play Store and make sure you have the latest version of the app installed. Indeed, WhatsApp fixed the bug a few days after it was reported.

In case your application has not yet updated, and you encounter this bug with one or more of your conversations, turn to WhatsApp on browser or its Desktop application. From this interface, it is possible to correct the error:

  • Open WhatsApp on browser or desktop app
  • Meet in the conversation containing the problematic link
  • Delete the link
  • On Android, close whatsapp
  • Open the app again and check that the link has disappeared from the conversation
