What smartphone users now have to pay attention to

Google is probably pulling the reins. The company does a lot of cleaning up in the Android universe. Initially to the disadvantage of Huawei, now Xiaomi must also draw the first conclusions. GIGA tells you what you should look out for in the future in order not to run into problems.

Xiaomi deletes Google apps from Android phones

In China, Xiaomi has started removing Google apps from Xiaomi phones. With a new update, the manually installed Google apps that are not included in the scope of delivery in the country are automatically removed. So anyone who imports a Chinese model because the cell phone cannot be bought in Germany, for example, and has manually installed the Google apps and services, must now expect them to be deleted – reported SmartDroid. Of course, this does not apply to Xiaomi products that are officially intended for the German market. But if you want to save money and import a cell phone, you might look into the tube in the future.

It is currently not known whether this happens under pressure from Google. It is clear, however, that Google will in future block selected apps and services on Android phones that have not been officially certified. Google services don’t play a big role in China, so that won’t have a big negative impact there. But if you want to retrofit a non-certified cell phone such as Huawei, you will soon have a problem. Then it becomes very cumbersome to install the Google apps. These are all signs that Google now wants to take more action and at least want to retain its services. Android remains open as to who wants to take advantage of Google, but has to become part of the ecosystem.

Xiaomi is currently revolutionizing the smartphone world:

Restrictions from other manufacturers could follow

Not only Huawei and Xiaomi could be affected by the new restrictions imposed by Google, but also customers of other devices. For example, if you buy an Amazon Fire tablet and want to install Google apps and services on it, you will soon no longer be able to do so. We keep an eye on the situation and report when something happens again.
