‘We don’t even have reading books that contain mice’

No corner or pocket can remain open in Elsemiek’s house, because she is terrified of mice.

mouse phobia

We live in an old house in Amsterdam and all the holes are full of steel wool, to prevent unwanted visitors. There are also two devices that emit high tones that only animals can hear. Mice find that an annoying sound and so they move.

EMDR

To manage my mouse phobia, I recently took EMDR trauma therapy. Fortunately that helped a little. But we don’t have any reading books with mice in them, not even Micky Mouse.”
